The Harlem Renaissance begins in the 1920’s lasting
into the 1930’s.
Amelia Earhart is the first woman to fly solo across
the Atlantic on June 19, 1928.
Jazz symbolized the popular music for the
1920’s.
Flappers and night clubs became a frequent source of
entertainment. This shows a moral decline from
previous generations.
Socio-Economic
Prohibition begins in the 1920’s and ends in
1933.
Women receive the right to vote in the
1920.
FDR launches the New Deal between 1933 and
1936.
The 1920's were marked by post war prosperity which
was brought to a halt in 1929 by the Stock Market
Crash. This lead the way to the Great Depression of the 1930's.
The Scopes Trial, pitting William Jennings Bryan
prosecuting against Clarence Darrow in defense of John
Scopes who was accused of teaching evolution.
Political
Communism begins to spread in Russia in the
1920’s.
Adolf Hitler comes to power in Germany in
1929.
The “Red Scare” took place in 1919. This involved
strikes by steel and meat packing workers from Chicago
to Seattle and many other major cities in the United States.
Ku Klux Klan staged a huge rally in Washington DC in
1925.
